Overview:
WRI’s Climate and Energy Program seeks a research analyst to provide research, analysis, and other support for its U.S. Climate Initiative. The U.S. Climate team works to provide timely, accurate, and non-partisan research information to policymakers at both the state and federal level. The successful candidate will join a team focused on opportunities for federal agencies and states to drive meaningful reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. This work will primarily build off two recent reports. The first quantifies opportunities for reducing greenhouse gas emissions using existing federal authorities and state action (http://www.wri.org/federalclimateaction). The second explores opportunities for federal regulation of power plants and industry to build off the existing regional programs (http://www.wri.org/publication/whats-ahead-for-power-plants-and-industry).

Responsibilities:
Major responsibilities of the analyst will include:
Analyze federal regulatory proposals to assess greenhouse gas reduction potential;
Engage states regarding federal regulatory developments;
Examine opportunities for greenhouse gas abatement at the state and federal levels;
Provide background research and administrative support for various groups convened by WRI to discuss topical climate policy issues; and,
Provide support related to fundraising and project management.
The successful candidate may also provide research support to other program objectives, including analysis of industrial efficiency opportunities and legislation proposed by the U.S. Congress.

Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree and two years experience in a relevant field, or a masters or law degree.
Strong quantitative, analytical, and research skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work well in a team, juggle multiple priorities, and work under tight deadlines.
