ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT: Asia and the Pacific Region

ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING:
The Programme Coordinator post is located UNFPA country office in Maldives and reports to the UNFPA Country Director for Maldives. S/He provides country offices with daily support on programme and operational issues, research and data collection; and assists in the management of the regional programme.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES/EXPECTED RESULTS:
A. Programme
Develops new programmes and projects in substantive areas; expands the range of UNFPA deliverables and originates new project portfolios within ICPD agenda based on national priorities; in the context of the UNFPA supported Country Programme recommends areas of population assistance on the basis of continuous review and analysis of demographic and socio-economic data and national population policies. Creates knowledge by evaluating on-going programmes and projects, documents lessons learned best practices and replicable strategies and actively shares and applies this knowledge.

B. Partnership and Advocacy
Maintains a continuous flow of information with government and donors and pursue innovative ways to maintain and create new partnerships; participates in the UN system joint initiatives in the country as part of broader UN Reform initiatives; participates in the sector-wide approach (SWAP) activities in the health sector by providing substantive inputs to facilitate policy dialogue and incorporation of these policies into national plans and strategies. Contributes to the resource mobilization strategy by analyzing info on potential donors, preparing substantive briefs and project proposals in line with donor priorities.

C. Management
Participates in the formulation of the annual work plans and monitors their day-to-day implementation through consultations, correspondence an field visits; supports the Country Director in the management of human and financial resources, with particular attention to ensuring systems of accountability as per UNFPA policies, rules and procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* Post-graduate university degree or equivalent in public health, medicine, sociology, demography, gender, economics, international relations, international development, public administration, management or other related field.
* Five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in developmental work
* Substantive knowledge and practical experience in population, sexual and reproductive health, and gender programming
* Strong communications and writing skills in English; additionally, fluency in French or Spanish is as asset
* Field experience is a strong asset.
* Proficiency in current office software applications.
