The Strategic Planning Officer works with day-to-day guidance from the Chief of Staff and reports to the Executive Director.
Duties and Responsibilities
Summary of key functions:
The Strategic Planning Officer will work closely with senior managers and staff of the organization to ensure policy, normative and operational management and planning work is aligned with UN Women’s mission and objectives.
Monitor wider global and regional developments relevant to the effective and efficient functioning of UN Women policy, normative and operational activities.
Contribute actively to strategic analysis and planning to formulate and implement strategic initiatives, monitoring and evaluating progress made toward strategic plan goal achievement and advise on course corrections and/or adjustments required to stay on track.
Prepare analytical/briefing papers and review reports, and will interact with staff at all levels within the organization.
Within the relevant delegated authority, the Strategic Planning Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
Monitor implementation of the UN Women Strategic Planning Framework, the strategic Plan and corresponding operating workplans.
Pro-actively plan, organize and manage the work of the Executive Director’s Office related to all aspects of monitoring the progress of the implementation of the strategic plan and related initiatives.
Coordinate Executive Director Office activities and processes related to strategic plan implementation including coordination with the Policy and Programme Bureau working closely with the Policy Division, the Programme Support Division and the Regional Division, the EOSG, PC, SMG and inter-governmental bodies as applicable.
Draft documents and briefing reports for the Executive Director for constituent body sessions including the Commission on the Status of Women and the Executive Board.
Assist in the day-to-day management of the UN Women Executive Office.
Manage, guide, develop and train staff under her/his supervision. Provide staff members with clear objectives, goals, direction, guidance and appropriate tools to enable them to meet their responsibilities effectively and efficiently.
Perform other official duties and special assignments which may be requested by the Executive Director and/or the Chief of Staff

Required Skills and Experience
Master’s degree or equivalent in economics, law, business administration, business management, public administration, or other related social sciences.
Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in planning and management, a solid understanding of inter-governmental processes and experience of working in an international organization, ideally at field and headquarters levels, is required.
Fluency in oral and demonstrated superior writing skills in English is required.
Proficiency in another UN working language is desirable.
