Position: Education Specialist (Knowledge Management)

Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Education Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting the extended education team with a slate of knowledge products and services including sharpening and organizing Knowledge Management priorities in order to ensure that professional staff are able to draw on current and relevant information to carry out their various responsibilities efficiently and effectively.

Qualification:
Advanced university degree in social sciences, development planning, statistics, socio-economic research and expertise in the field of Education sector very desirable.*
Five years of relevant work experience for international organisation in education, knowledge management, project design, programme management, communication /journals or monitoring and evaluation.
Fluency in English and another UN language.
*A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Key Expected Results:
1. Systematic knowledge identification and compilation
Identification, analysis, validation, and compilation of case studies, good practices and lessons learned for education programme/policy planning, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation through systematic research and regular contact with developmental partners, academia and UNICEF regional and country offices. Creation of comprehensive database(s)/reports documenting relevant data, good practices, cutting-edge thinking, and lessons learned in the education sector. Bring together substantive evidence in policy innovations; programme planning, design & implementation; and monitoring and evaluation for equity in education.
End Result(s): Established Education Knowledge and Data Base with historic content and tailored for actively supporting the implementation of the Equity in Education strategy

2. Knowledge dissemination
Prepare quality education knowledge products and disseminate them to the education community (partners and UNICEF), through regular newsletter and e-mail distribution, maintenance of the education internal intranet site and usage of other innovative dissemination methods.
End Result(s): Findings, lessons learned and recommendations in education programme disseminated to the education community

3. Technical knowledge management support
Coordinate the review of knowledge generated by country, regional and headquarters education staff. Support activities of the hubs within the education section in conducting situational analysis, evaluation and implementation research. Facilitate the exchange of information between HQ, Regions and Countries and build mechanisms to facilitate these processes. Compile information and develop a central clearinghouse or other mechanism, enabling cross regional exchange of knowledge.
End Result(s): Established Global Education ‘Community of Practice’ and knowledge sharing culture.

4. Technical support
Support the development of education technical guidance / notes / training and advocacy material through literature review, summarizing and producing original text / documents when applicable.
End Result(s): Summary of literature review shared with the unit

5.Systems development for knowledge management
Support the building and strengthening of systems, procedures and methods for education programme knowledge management.
End Result(s): System and methods of knowledge management for education is in place and effectively used by all staff at HQ/RO/CO

6.Technical inputs in section work
Support the management and functioning of the education section through organization and participation at the global, regional and internal technical meetings, organization and participation at education events and conferences, report writing, drafting ToRs and performing other duties related to the education section work, as requested.
End Result(s):
Organize and facilitate global and regional education meetings and draft the meetings reports
