Save the Children is rewriting the future for millions of the hardest to reach children in countries across the world by helping to ensure they get a quality education, and through advocacy in support of their right to an education to be respected. Education is a key element of Save the Children’s 2010 – 2015 five-year strategy, harnessing the power of our international organizations to achieve our ambitious goals, as well as continuing to work to provide access to education to three million out-of-school children. Save the Children will ensure children are benefiting from education by demonstrating improved learning outcomes and are also working to ensure that there is a significant increase in the number of children enrolled in early childhood development programs.

The Director of this Global Education Initiative will be responsible for leading, managing and providing direction to the Initiative. He/she will ensure that clear objectives and milestones are in place, that the resources required to deliver the Global Initiative are secured plus work through the Members of Save the Children to deliver the objectives of the Education business plan and managing its implementation at global level

Requirements:

The selected candidate will have practical experience working at a senior level of responsibility in an international, cross-border organization; an understanding of and experience in international advocacy; a solid understanding of the practical workings at country level; the ability to lead and provide hands-on support and advice, whilst working within and alongside the developing Save the Children structure. In addition he/she will have proven experience leading diverse, complex projects and project teams to achieve agreed objectives plus a good understanding of the key issues relating to education in developmental and emergency contexts. Experience designing and managing education programs in developmental and/or emergency contexts would be a distinct advantage. Strong communication, collaboration and leadership skills are required.
