This position is located in Umoja in the Department of Management in New York. The ERP Functional Expert (Master Data – Logistics), will report to the Senior Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Analyst – Supply Chain, during the ERP build. It is envisaged that this position will transition to the Data Management Team, reporting to the Data Management Team Lead, post go-live.
Responsibilities
Initially under the direct supervision of the Senior Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Analyst – Supply Chain, the ERP Functional Expert (Master Data – Logistics) will be responsible for the area of logistics legacy data (material master, equipment master, warehouse structure, equipment locations etc) and the mapping and data enrichment requirements to support the in-scope Umoja SAP processes. This is a critical task and bridges the gap between process and data.
In addition to the above primary duties the role may be assigned to other logistics-related ERP project activities namely, process design, detailed system designs, configuration, customization, testing, training, and client support during Build, and Rollout phases.
In undertaking the above responsibilities the incumbent will carry out the following duties: Prepares various written outputs, including functional specifications, background papers, analysis, substantial sections of reports and studies and related duties; collects, develops and validates design requirements by conducting workshops, facilitating subject matter expert focus groups, surveys, and/or conducting conference room pilots as needed, including the identification of participants, preparation of documents, agenda items and presentations and related duties; participates in the analysis of the scope and most suitable methodologies for the conversion of various types of data in the global Secretariat. Identifies key issues in preparing data for conversion and actively contributes to strategies and plans, which coordinate the preparatory efforts of stake holders. Collects, develops and validates business rules related to the data clean-up process including establishing effective consultative mechanisms with representatives from users, technology support and commercial integration services. Ensures the implementation of data standards and the governance processes affecting data conversion including ensuring timely identification, reporting, tracking and resolution of issues. Participates with subject matter experts and other users in performing audit processes, which validate data accuracy, integrity and consistency in conversion from multiple systems and other sources; provides process improvement subject matter expertise in the area of logistics management; participates in software configuration activities with the integration consultants and collaborates with logistics subject matter experts from offices throughout the Secretariat; participates in the fit/gap analysis process with the subject matter experts and the integration consultants to determine the configuration design and associated business process change or where customization is required to fulfill the requirements of the ‘To Be’ design; participates in the development of risk/benefit analyses associated with customizations.
If necessary, prepares written and oral justifications for specific customizations. Articulates and drafts functional specifications for systems customization. Participates with subject matter experts and other assigned users in conducting end-to-end integration testing of processes using UN specific data. Ensures project issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner. Identifies required changes with the subject matter experts and communicate those changes to integration consultants. Identifies needs and expectations of clients and stakeholders, communicates those to the ERP project leadership and the integration consultants throughout the Design, Build and Rollout phases. Provide hands-on support to clients and stakeholders throughout roll out phase. May be assigned other duties as required.
Upon system roll-out this role will become part of the Data Management Team, reporting to the Data Management Team Lead. This role will be operational in nature, supporting the master data management needs of the business and problem solving where process interruptions occur.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, engineering, logistics management, or other related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Professional certification, membership of Chartered Institutes, or other additional academic qualifications in areas such as transport or logistics operations/management, supply chain management are desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in managing diverse logistics operations spanning across two or more countries in military, commercial or international organizations is required. Experience in relevant United Nations legacy systems (e.g. IMIS, Mercury, Galileo) is required, especially within the area of the logistics functions; to enable assessment of such processes as order tracking and tracing, goods and services receipts, performance measurement and optimization. Experience with and proficiency in MS Office applications including Visio and MS Project is required.
Previous SAP Experience within the logistics area is desirable. Experience in managing/owning data within ERP systems is desirable.. At least one year’s experience in UN peacekeeping or other field operation is desirable. Experience in the application of United Nations logistics policies and procedures are desirable. Experience in process re-engineering, working to change processes, organizations (including people’s roles and responsibilities) and technology simultaneously is desirable. Experience in design, build, test and roll-out for a major ERP implementation is an advantage.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language, preferably French is desirable.

Evaluation of qualified applicants for this position may include a substantive assessment followed by a competency-based interview.

This fixed-term appointment is financed from temporary funding and does not carry any expectancy, legal or otherwise, of renewal or of conversion to any other type of appointment in the Secretariat of the United Nations.
Appointment of the successful candidate on this position will be limited to the initial funding of the post. Further extension is subject to budgetary approval. Appointments of staff members in the United Nations are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General. Staff Members are expected to move periodically to new functions in accordance with established rules and procedures, and may in this context be reassigned by the Secretary-General throughout the Organization based on the changing needs and mandates.
