This position is located in the Umoja Technical and Data Team, the mission of which is to deliver an integrated solution to our community of users through a set of user-centered desktop, web and mobile applications. Technologies to be used are standard SAP Graphical User Interface (SAP GUI), SAP Business Client, SAP NetWeaver Portal, SAP SRM, SAP CRM, Adobe Interactive Forms and SAP NetWeaver Mobile solutions. The incumbent reports to the Umoja Technical Team Lead.

Responsibilities
(1) Provide leadership and guidance to the organization to oversee the design and implementation of the Umoja user interface.
(2) Promote the use of standards and best practices in usability, accessibility and information architecture.
(3) Ensure a consistent and a superior user experience to Umoja.
(4) Provide recommendations on the latest trends in the User Experience (UX) field and on the use of new technologies and frameworks such as Web 2.0, Rich Internet Applications (RIA), HTML5 and Mobile Enterprise Application Frameworks (MEAP).
(5) Ensure all development is reviewed and the code and user interface is compliant with the standards defined by the project team.
(6) Oversee the Systems Integrator teams and internal resources that will be driving development of the different UI solutions.
(7) Perform any other duties as required.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in electrical engineering, computer science, information systems or related fields. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
Experience in the following areas is required: A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience related to design, development and implementation of desktop, web or mobile applications mainly in the SAP world; Proven achievements include developing superior user interfaces in the contact of full lifecycle implementations of SAP; Experience managing and motivating technical resources, including integrated teams comprised of both internal and vendor resources; Experience designing portal infrastructure solutions, developing and documenting user interface standards and designing and conducting usability tests. Experience implementing federated portals is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language, preferably French is desirable.

Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified applicants for this position may include a substantive assessment followed by a competency-based interview.

Special Notice
Appointment of the successful candidate on this position will be limited to the initial funding of the post. Further extension is subject to budgetary approval.

Appointments of staff members in the United Nations are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General. Staff Members are expected to move periodically to new functions in accordance with established rules and procedures, and may in this context be reassigned by the Secretary-General throughout the Organization based on the changing needs and mandates.
