The National Democratic Institute (NDI) seeks a talented and versatile Software Engineer to join the dynamic technology team who will develop and maintain a Liferay portal (Java-J2EE/Glassfish/MySQL platform), and variety of other internal web and business applications. The position is based in Washington, D.C.
* Works with dynamic project teams to conceptualizes, design and implement new and existing features to support NDI’s intranet based on the Liferay open source portal;
* Supports and maintains Oracle, SQL Server and MySQL-based web and business applications;
* Participates in the coding stages of an iterative software engineering lifecycle, including software security and documentation;
* Documents all work and program activities on internal technology team documentation tracking systems.
* Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical degree;
* Minimum two (2) years of computer programming experience in a university, professional or related setting;
* Liferay Portal development and administration experience strongly preferred;
* Relational database experience (DBA), including MySQL, Microsoft Access, Oracle and SQL Server;
* 2 years website programming skills, Java/J2EE, JavaScript, Microsoft .NET and ASP preferred;
* Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to effectively interact with all levels of NDI staff;
* Excellent oral communications skills to effectively present information, respond to questions;
* Smooth multi-tasking among four or more responsibilities;
* Fluency in written and spoken English. Additional language skills preferred.
