The National Democratic Institute (NDI) seeks an enthusiastic and diligent current or recent undergraduate or graduate student to assist the Political Party Development Team. As an NDI “functional” team, the Political Party Development Team provides issue expertise on political parties and political party development; assists in program design, implementation and evaluation; houses and develops centralized resources; promotes cross-regional exchange; recommends and recruits trainers; and performs various additional functions. The Political Party Development Team also oversees NDI’s Brussels Office and coordinates the Institute’s participation in global democracy conferences. Interns will assist team members with both administrative duties and programmatic support, and will be based in Washington, D.C. We are recruiting for applicants available starting the beginning of September.
Required Skills
# Responding to requests for information and publications;
# Collecting appropriate party building material for use in regional team programs;
# Maintaining team resources and the electronic file index;
# Editing documents and reports and helping to compile newsletters;
# Writing periodic party development updates;
# Conducting background research;
# Attending and reporting on meetings and periodic briefings;
# Assisting with maintaining internal team website;
# Performing various administrative tasks including scanning, filing, faxing, copying, arranging travel and sending out mailings.
Experience Required
# Generally pursuing or recently completed an undergraduate or graduate degree in political science, international affairs or a related field;
# Knowledge of and demonstrated interest in politics and political development;
# Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
# Outstanding organizational and administrative abilities and attention to detail;
# Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks;
# Flexible, conscientious and team-oriented;
# Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications;
# Available 40 hours per week.

This is a paid internship. Interns are encouraged to attend workshops, lectures and other staff development events at NDI.
