Position: Women’s Political Participation Team (217346-851)

The Women’s Political Participation Team seeks a short-term employee to serve as Senior Program Officer to strengthen NDI’s women’s political participation programs throughout the Institute by assisting regional teams to design and implement programs. The position is based in Washington, DC. The proposed timeline for the position is four months: May 28-September 28, 2012.

Responsibilities
Serve as an in-house resource person on women’s political participation programs globally; work with NDI regional teams to conceptualize and design women’s legislative, civic, and political party programs.
Develop program concepts and lead strategic discussions; facilitate sharing of program strategies across regional teams.
Work as team player within the women’s political participation team, providing back-up to the Director of Women’s Political Participation Programs, providing advice on general women’s programs and supervising work by junior members of the team and interns.
Maintain collaborative relationships with international democratic development organizations, civic organizations and NDI’s network of volunteer trainers and experts; act as back-up to team members not present.
Train and offer advice and guidance for NDI staff.

Experience Required
Bachelor’s degree preferably in International Relations or related subject; graduate degree preferred
A minimum of six (6) years relevant work experience in international development, community organizing, political campaigns, organizational development, legislative affairs, or equivalent experience at NDI
Additional years of relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirement
Experience in program design and how to strategize
Experience working on gender issues
Experience conducting political and/or gendertraining
Living and working experience outside theUSpreferred
Demonstrated knowledge and/or competency in one or more areas of NDI’s functional programs
Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to effectively interact with all levels of staff, US and foreign government personnel, members of donor organizations, funders, and policy makers
Excellent oral communications skills to effectively present information, respond to questions
Exceptional writing skills, clear and persuasive with little to no editing
Strong negotiating and managerial skills
Capacity to work both independently and as a member of a team
Smooth multi-tasking among four or more responsibilities
Ability to lead, inspire and motivate staff where mentoring results are clearly beneficial
Ability to analyze political work, think innovatively and introduce new concepts
Working knowledge of PC-based word processing and spreadsheet applications
Seasoned budget and accounting skills
Ability and willingness to travel to regional locations which are often remote and difficult to reach countries.
Foreign language ability, preferred
