The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector investment arm of the World Bank Group, pursues its mission of creating opportunities for people to escape poverty by promoting private sector development through investment and advisory services. IFC’s Sustainable Business Advisory (SBA) Business Line works with firms in manufacturing, agribusiness, services, and infrastructure to contribute to the creation of inclusive, environmentally sustainable, and efficient markets in developing countries. The Business Line s delivery of services is anchored by the Sustainable Business Advisory Department (CSB), which functions as a global service hub supporting regionally-based staff in the design and delivery of advisory projects as well as managing some global partnerships and initiatives. Specialists in the Department s Global Products Division are accountable for strategic guidance, quality assurance, knowledge management, resource mobilization and relationship management support for advisory projects in one of seven products in the SBA Business Line:(i) Clean Energy, (ii) Corporate Governance, (iii) Environmental, Social and Trade Standards, (iv) Farmer and SME Training,(v) Resource Efficiency, (vi) Strategic Community Investment, and (vii) Sustainable Investing.
Job Vacancies Duties and Accountabilities:
The objective of IFC s advisory work in Environmental, Social and Trade Standards is to increase market access of firms in key sectors and commodities by helping them set, adopt and deploy internationally recognized environmental, social and trade standards. We are seeking an experienced environmental standards specialist to join the EST Standards Product team as a Global Products Specialist. Under the supervision of the Global Product Leader, specific duties and accountabilities include:
* Strategy and Product Support o Work with the EST Standards Global Product Leader to further articulate and help implement the strategy IFC s approach to international EST standards, with a particular emphasis on the environmental aspects and impacts of standards o Support in the development of tools and materials related to IFC Performance Standards, identifying and implementing appropriate engagements with investment clients/potential clients
* Quality Assurance o Support IFC regional advisory teams in designing and implementing EST Standards projects and programs, working closely with Regional Business Line Leaders
* Knowledge Management o Support the knowledge management agenda for EST Standards, taking accountability for gathering, managing and disseminating global best practice and institutional knowledge across IFC and the World Bank Group o Support a practice group for EST Standards, leveraging and collaborating with IFC staff in industry and specialist departments (e.g. MAS, CES), regions and other business lines
* Resource Management o Engage in fundraising as needed, attend donor meetings as requested and supporting the writing of proposal documents o Support in the recruitment, onboarding and ongoing mentoring of key staff working on EST Standards in regions
* Relationship Management o Directly support and where designated lead take the lead on internal (within the WBG) outreach and donor coordination for the EST Standards Product, advising the Global Product Leader as needed o Manage relationships with relevant standards setting organizations, with which IFC has or may partner, such as RSPO, RTRS, UEBT, FSC etc. o Support SBA s engagements with external stakeholders such as corporations and NGOs active in the standards arena
Job Vacancies Selection Criteria:
* A minimum of eight years of relevant work experience specific to environmental standards
* Technical background on environment in the agriculture/forestry and manufacturing sectors with a private sector focus is an advantage
* Master s Degree or equivalent in an area related to Environment and Sustainability. Additional qualifications in Business Administration, Finance or a related field would be an advantage
* Demonstrated experience on design and implementation, particularly the use of environmental standards to work on mitigation/adaptation strategies
* Experience working with commodity sector roundtables such as RSPO, RTRS, FSC etc would be a significant advantage
* Demonstrated experience in transferring knowledge and ability to listen and influence others without formal authority and to work across organizational boundaries
* Recognized as a team player, can effectively build consensus, and can collaborate across a multicultural, multinational organization
* Ability to operate effectively in public sector environment
* Excellent English written and spoken communication skills are essential, and multiple language skills are highly preferred
* Willingness to travel as and where necessary
