Background / General description
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is a multilateral development institution. IFC’s mission is to promote private sector investment in developing countries by providing debt and equity financing, mobilizing capital in international financial markets, and offering technical assistance to governments and businesses. IFC is looking to recruit an Investment Analyst to work within the Europe, Middle East and North Africa, Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services (EMENA MAS) department. Within EMENA MAS, the Analyst will focus on executing debt, equity, and quasi-equity investments within the Manufacturing Division with a focus on the chemicals. In focusing on this sector, the Analyst will work closely with Investment Officers in the origination, structuring, negotiation and subsequent supervision of a wide range of investments on behalf of IFC. This position will be based in Washington DC. In the EMENA region IFC holds a manufacturing portfolio of approximately 2.3 billion of which 38 % in the chemicals sector. This is one of IFC’s priority sectors in the region in light of the strong results achieved to date and of the potential to support IFC’s members countries tackle some key development challenges such as food security and employment creation. The geographic focus will be on the EMENA countries with the largest chemical sectors (Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Russia) and on those with the potential to develop it, such as Iraq and Uzbekistan. It will require frequent travel with the opportunity to work on some of the most complex projects and largest ticket investments.

Duties and Accountabilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Conducting company due diligence, analyzing historical financial statements, and creating detailed financial models to assess the viability and optimal structure of an IFC investment; Participating in all aspects of IFC’s transaction processing cycle from project development to disbursement, including the creation of internal investment committee presentations, project proposals, term sheets, company briefings, and other project cycle documents; Supporting Investment Officers in all aspects of chemicals sector’s business development in the region, including research and tracking the chemicals industry, market and target companies, as well as assisting in preparing marketing presentations for perspective clients research; Assisting Investment Officers in assessing early-stage investment proposals; Assisting IFC staff review environmental and social issues associated with projects; Establishing and maintaining quality client relationships to ensure responsiveness and to enhance new business opportunities; Contribute to portfolio monitoring by preparing quarterly supervision reports based on financial and operational reporting from client; Participate in on-going supervision of the projects by assisting in credit analyses and preparation of waivers, amendments to existing legal documentation and establish client relationships to ensure responsiveness and to capture new business opportunities with existing clients; Assist in preparation of industry and/or country strategy papers, briefs for visits by high-level IFC staff and project profiles for trust funds assistance.

Selection Criteria
Selection Criteria: Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree from a distinguished university, specialization in finance preferred; Experience at a top-tier financial institution for a minimum of 2 years, with extensive experience in creating cash flow, income statement and balance sheet company financial models with detailed operational/financial assumptions in the context of debt, equity and quasi-equity transactions; Strong analytical and problem solving skills and sound business judgement to identify issues and present creative and practical solutions; Ability to work successfully in multicultural teams, and to travel; Strong client orientation with an openness to receive feedback and new ideas; Ability to manage and complete multiple projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines under pressure; Genuine interest in sustainable development and working in emerging markets; Fluency in English and ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbal. Knowledge of foreign languages (Russian, Turkish, Arabic) is a plus but not required. Familiarity with Chemicals sector is welcome but not required.
