The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector investment arm of the World Bank Group, is one of the leading investors and lenders in emerging markets. IFC finances private sector investments in the developing world, mobilizes capital in the international financial markets, helps clients improve social and environmental sustainability, and provides technical assistance and advice to governments and businesses. IFC s Global Telecommunications, Media and Technology Department (“TMT”) invests in private sector businesses that promote the spread of information technologies to the emerging markets. We have a track record of successful investments in mobile telephony, submarine cables, IT services, IT-enabled services, and shared infrastructure such as data centers, towers and broadband networks. We provide project financing, private equity and venture capital for telecom and information technology companies in emerging markets. We are unique for our global perspective on information technologies, our long-term approach to investments, and our ability to leverage the resources of the entire World Bank Group, as well as our commitment to maximizing the value of our portfolio companies through sustained assistance. To expand our venture/growth capital investments globally in the TMT space, IFC seeks Experienced Investment Officers, to be based initially in Washington DC, but could later move to one of our regional field offices with the following requirements:

Duties and Accountabilities:
- Promote IFC s investments in the TMT sector, throughout global emerging markets, primarily, but not limited to Venture Capital and Private
- Build a strong pipeline of potential investee companies and work with IFC s regional investment teams to appraise, structure, and negotiate transactions;
- Build and maintain a network of co-investors
– both sector focused and regionally focused venture and private equity funds
– that would participate alongside IFC in its TMT investment program;
- Establish and maintain relationships with relevant strategic investors and TMT industry operators that are active in emerging markets;
- Participate in active portfolio management through tracking investment performance and development outcomes. Represent IFC as a shareholder and support investee companies growth plans using your industry network and sector experience;
- Identify potential exit opportunities and assisting/overseeing the structuring and negotiations of exit transactions;
- As needed, work on transactions for later stage TMT companies, applying IFC s full range of financial instruments, including senior and mezzanine loans and quasi-equity;
- Develop new initiatives for investment in the TMT sector in emerging markets. Identify how best to use the World Bank Group s expertise and assets to accelerate development in the sector, with a particular focus on inclusion and impact;
- Establish investment strategies for selected TMT sub-sectors, indentifying how changes in the industry will open up opportunities for developing countries. Identify how IFC could assist such countries private sector participants to entry these new markets.

Selection Criteria:
- At least 8 years telecom/media/technology experience, preferably in venture capital, private equity or commercial or investment banking;
- Experience in and analytical knowledge of emerging markets is preferred;
- Experience in lead negotiating and structuring complex equity transactions;
- Existing and usable network amongst venture capitalists, private equity funds, investment advisors and strategic investors in emerging markets;
- Experience in portfolio management, including facilitation of exits. Having prior experience as an investee company board director is a positive;
- Successful candidates should have the ability to oversee small teams, to actively drive concurrent projects and to show experience in mentoring junior staff;
- Advanced degree required, MBA from leading international institutions preferred;
- Written competency and spoken language fluency in English, with native writing and speaking capabilities in other languages preferred;
