Position: Analyst, UN Advocacy and Research

Role:
Reporting to the Vice President for Multilateral Affairs, the incumbent will conduct research and advocacy activities at the United Nations, focusing on the UN Secretariat, the UN Security Council, and member-states missions to the United Nations
Responsibilities:
Monitor and analyze UN policy developments and facilitate the flow of information between New York and field staff. Assist the Senior Analyst in providing detailed analyses of developments at UNHQ, internal Secretariat and Security Council dynamics, advocacy opportunities, and potential policy outcomes to ensure internal awareness and adequate reflection of UN perspectives in Crisis Group publications; Develop and maintain an advocacy network with UN officials, NGOs, and diplomats from a variety of UN member-states on country-specific crises and policy issues covered by Crisis Group; In conjunction with the Senior Analyst and the Vice President for Multilateral Affairs, support high-profile advocacy at the United Nations; Conduct additional research and writing projects as requested by the Vice-President for Multilateral Affairs and/or the Senior Analyst. Contribute to the drafting and editing of Crisis Group reports, memos, special briefings and other UN-related advocacy documents, as well as Crisis Watch; Maintain contact with Crisis Group advocacy/field staff to disseminate information and ensure consistent advocacy messaging; Help coordinate the advocacy itineraries for Crisis Group program and project directors and analysts during their visits to New York;
Requirements:
Two or three years of previous work experience required; Excellent, demonstrated English language writing skills; knowledge of an additional official UN language a plus; Tertiary qualifications, preferably (but not necessarily) in international relations, political science, or related subjects; Attention to detail, ability to work to tight deadlines, well organised team player; Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
