An international coalition of organizations dedicated to using history as a tool to promote social justice.
Position: Development Associate
Closing date: 15 Oct 2010

Organization Background
The International Coalition Sites of Conscience (www.sitesofconscience.org) is a worldwide network of “Sites of Conscience” – historic sites dedicated to remembering past struggles for justice and addressing their contemporary legacies. Sites of Conscience, like the Lower East Side Tenement Museum in the United States, the Gulag Museum in Russia, and the District Six Museum in South Africa, foster public dialogue on pressing social issues to build lasting cultures of human rights in diverse communities across the globe. The Coalition provides member sites with direct funding for civic engagement programs; organizes learning exchanges ranging from one-on-one collaborations to international conferences; and conducts strategic advocacy for individual sites and the movement as a whole. The Coalition was founded in 1999 by 9 members as a project of the Lower East Side Tenement Museum and launched as an independent nonprofit organization in June of 2006. Today, the Coalition has more than 230 members in over 40 countries including 7 regional networks in Africa, Asia, Europe, Russia, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa and the U.S.
Since 2006, the Coalition has tripled its number of funders and built its budget to $1.5m. Building on core, multi-year support from major funders including the Ford Foundation, Open Society Institute, and the Oak Foundation, the organization is now poised to launch its next phase of growth.
