About the Position:
Position Title: Security Coordinator Position Type: Full-time Location: Washington, DC Reporting to: Security Director
BASIC FUNCTIONS: BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The role of the Security Coordinator (SC) is to support the Security Director (SD) to meet the objectives of InterAction’s security program. The Security Coordinator’s Office is the operational wing of the Security Unit. It is responsible for implementing the security unit’s initiatives and responsibilities. The Security Coordinator also provides conceptual support to the Security Director as required, including assistance with developing and analyzing strategies, policies, trends, developments and operations Responsibilities:
Facilitate the sharing of information amongst members including, but not limited to: incidents, country-specific and thematic information, trends, and policies relevant to security. Develop and maintain institutional systems to facilitate the sharing of information, such as the SAG website and other communications tools.
Support the Security Director as he/she ensures that members are either MOSS compliant or are becoming MOSS compliant and in accordance with the industries standards.
Implement the SU’s Training Strategy. Provide conceptual support in devising that strategy as required by the Security Director.
Support the SD as he/she represent InterAction to the wider policy community. Represent the SU in internal meetings and to a smaller degree in outside meetings when and/if appropriate and required by the SD.
Conduct outreach to members and potential members, to encourage participation in the Security Advisory Group.
Identify country specific and thematic issues that are potentially of interest to the community, and bring them to the SD’s attention. Carry out further action as directed by the SD.
Support the Security Advisory Group and SAG initiatives as directed by the SD.
Perform other reasonable and related duties as assigned by the SD. Qualifications:
The Assistant Security Coordinator position will have the following requirements for knowledge, skills, and abilities:
A minimum of three years experience (preferably 1-2 years in the field in international relief work). Overseas experience in staff safety and operational security would be a good asset.
Proven networking, coordination, and interpersonal skills are essential, as this is the core of InterAction’s and the Security Unit’s objective.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent leadership, negotiation, and administration skills.
Knowledge of international politics and cultures.
Ability to create an environment of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Availability for possible domestic and international travel on short notice.
Ability to operate software systems such as Microsoft Office Suite and proprietary databases.
Note:
Professional experience in the Military or Police is not a substitute for the above requirements. The position requires solid program management skills. Experience in security as stated above is preferred but not essential.
