Job Vacancies TERMS OF REFERENCE – INDIVIDUAL CONSULTANT
Senior Nurse Consultant
* Background: The Health Services Center of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) at Headquarters provides health services to IDB/IIC employees and contractual employees on a daily basis.
* Objectives of the Consultancy: To provide occupational health services, which include the implementation of the following programs: Emergency Services, Medical Examination, Travel Medicine, Wellness, Nursing Care and Medical Orientation.
* Main Activities:
1. Provide comprehensive primary nursing care, orientation and education, including clinical management of occupational and non-occupational illnesses/injuries of employees.
2. Provide general case management for pre-employment and periodical medical exams and their related medical clearances.
3. Provide nursing care in emergency situations and work-related accidents at Headquarters, and assist with other similar situations with Country Offices.
4. Provide Travel Medicine and recommendations to help travelers stay healthy, preventing disease and injury.
5. Perform investigation, analysis and comparison of new medicines, medical supplies and equipment (in terms of cost, availability, providers, etc) making recommendations and/or ordering them as needed.
6. Provide technical support to nurse consultant and be the Center’s clinical resource.
Deliverables:
* Responsible for nursing care, clinical and case management of occupational and non-occupational illnesses/injuries of employees, including data collection, problem identification, planning of care, implementation of plan, patient education, follow-ups, and referrals.
* Provide information/orientation to employees and candidates, review submitted exams, prepare medical clearances form and submit for approval, communicate to HR medical clearance results.
* Process work-related accident cases, analyzing employee injury exposure and actions to correct the identified problem, making clinical referrals as necessary.
* Complete and provide appropriate documentation for coverage of benefits, to include record-keeping and completion of insurance forms and legal nursing reports.
* Collaborate with medical evacuations, utilizing Travel Assistance Program provider as coordinating agent for clinical services and referrals.
* Evaluate immunization needs based on patient’s age and current medical status, and develop the best possible immunization schedule using the latest immunization recommendations and protocols, even under the most difficult time constraints.
* Monitor and control utilization of medicines, supplies and equipment. Order medical supplies and update Medical Directive regarding medicine.
* Collaborate with any public health related issues, revision of policies, and creation of forms. Assist with planning of Wellness Program and activities and act as a nurse-in-charge when Coordinator is on leave.
* Contractual Characteristics
1. Type of consultancy: International Individual Consultant
2. Contract Duration: 149 days within a 12 – month period
3. Post of Duty: Inter-American Development Bank Headquarters
* Responsible Office and Org. Unit: The consultant will report on day – to – day basis to the Health Services Coordinator – Specialist in the Human Resources, Health Services Center at Headquarters.
* Academic Degree: Accredited nursing program graduate (BSN preferred); current RN license in Washington, DC; CPR and AED certification.
* Experience: At least 5 years of clinical experience in emergency medicine, cardiology, or internal medicines.
* Languages: Preferably bilingual English/Spanish.
* Skills: Candidate must possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and must be committed to providing excellent customer service to our multi-lingual, multi-cultural clients.
Individuals with relatives working for the IDB within and including the fourth degree of consanguinity and the second degree of affinity are not eligible.
This includes staff members and consultants. Candidates must be citizens of a member country of the Inter-American Development Bank.
