SUMMARY
The Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition (MCHN) Programs Coordinator will be expected to provide technical support and administrative backstopping to FH’s maternal and child health, nutrition and HIV/AIDS interventions that are under programs managed by the food security unit (Title II, ICB, OFDA, PRM, etc) and health unit. The MCHN Programs Coordinator will report to the Director of Health Programs and will coordinate extensively with the Director of Food Security, Director of Emergency Relief, and related team members. This person will also provide support in the development of new proposals and monitoring of current proposals as need in the areas of MCHN and HIV/AIDS.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Result Area #1:
Provide technical and administrative support in the health, nutrition and sanitation interventions of FH’s programs that are managed by the food security, health and emergency relief units (Approximately 75% of the Time). Effort will be spent to technically and administratively support the MCHN strategic objectives of the USAID-funded Ethiopia Title II, multi-year assistance food security program and 35% to technically and administratively support the MCHN strategic objectives of the -funded DRC Title II, multi-year assistance food security program.
Assist MCHN program staff in Title II, OFDA and other field programs backstopped by the food security, health and emergency relief unit to improve the use of Essential Nutrition Actions (by mothers of young children), Essential Hygiene Actions, prevention of common childhood diseases (especially diarrhea, ARI, and malaria) through effective household behavior change;
Assist MCHN program staff in Title II, OFDA and other field programs backstopped by the food security, health, or emergency response unit to improve the status, health and HIV treatment literacy of program beneficiaries;
Develop methodologies and conduct trainings for Title II, OFDA, and other field programs with FH and partner staff as part of institutional capacity building, including training in new and existing methodologies (e.g., local determinants of malnutrition, management of severe malnutrition, LQAS, barrier analysis);
Communicate regularly and visit with Title II, OFDA, and other health and sanitation staff and provide program implementation support, including the timely implementation of the Detailed Implementation Plan, budget tracking, monitoring and evaluation;
Review health, nutrition and sanitation portions of scheduled program reports and evaluations from food security, OFDA, and other fields and verify they are complete and accurate in addition to highlighting intervention areas that require support;
Collaborate with other US PVOs on health sector, food security and emergency relief best practices through working groups and information sharing;
Meet as needed with the Food for Peace or OFDA staff and/or other staff in order to support on-going and potential food security health and nutrition programs;
Represent the organization at PVO coordination and briefing meetings in Washington, DC that are related to food security, HIV/AIDS, or health programming best practices and strategies;
Support other capacity building program activities as assigned;
Follow or create (where not yet established) monitoring systems based on approved Indicator Tracking Tables to ensure timely reporting between FH and the lead agency and or donor;
Prepare reports as required by the lead agency, donor, and FH External/Internal Communication departments;
Support and prepare fields with tools needed to carry out surveys, include sampling directions, data entry templates, training on survey implementation, and assist to analyze data;
Coordinate with the Curriculum Specialist, lead agency, and FH Field staff to ensure the BCC curriculum has been adapted based on formative research and local needs and is produced according to the DIP.
Key results Area #2:
Provide program design and proposal development support for MCHN and HIV/AIDS grants (25%).
Coordinate with Director of Food Security, Director of Health Programs, Senior Director of Program Quality Improvement, Director of Emergency Relief, and FH field staff in supporting health and HIV/AIDS program design and proposal development;
Assist the Relief Unit, as needed, to respond to emergency situations through project design, writing proposals, field assessments, and/or contributing to the response in country.

Knowledgeable of reporting requirements.

Excellent training and speaking skills.
Previous experience with data management, survey planning and analysis.
Able to multi-task * Ability to sit at a computer for 8 hours a day doing repetitive motions on a keyboard * Ability to travel in the US and internationally up to 30% of time per year.
Able to lift up to 25 pounds on a regular basis * Ability to stand for long periods, walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces at times.
Ability to travel in a car over rough roads for up to six hours * Proficiency in Epi-Info for Windows highly desirable.
Experience managing a team and budgets > $500K is desirable * Candidates with survey design, implementation and data analysis skills are preferred * Candidates with experience writing successful USG or European donor funded proposal preferred
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Master of Public Health, Nutrition or other health related degree required. Minimum two years experience working with overseas community health projects in a developing country. Minimum of two years experience in backstopping funded MCHN or HIV/AIDS programs. Or, combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Fluency in English, written and spoken. French fluency is highly desirable. Fluency in Amharic, Swahili and/or French is desirable.
