DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the technical supervision of the Senior Officer (Land Resources) take part in all matters related to soil resources and land management. Specifically will:

* provide technical inputs on matters related to soil survey and mapping;
* participate in activities related to land evaluation and land use planning, including in agro-ecological zoning;
* contribute to land degradation assessments;
* undertake GIS applications related to land degradation assessments;
* perform a wide range of sustainable land management activities including their assessment and practical application and propagation through farmer field schools and other field projects;
* participate in and provide inputs into relevant Regular Programme activities of NRL;
* organize and participate in relevant technical meetings, seminars and workshops related to soils and land management;
* perform other duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:

* Advanced university degree in a discipline relevant to soil science and land management
* Five years of relevant experience in soils and land management
* Working level of English and limited knowledge of French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic or Chinese

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

* Extent of experience in soils and land management
* Extent of field project experience and level of knowledge of databases and GIS
* Demonstrated capacity to work in teams and maintain effective working relationships with institutions and various types of partners in the field of soils and land management
* Demonstrated ability to analyze development and institutional issues clearly and concisely
* Good communication skills, both oral and in writing
* Ability to work in other official languages would be an asset

Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.

REMUNERATION

Level P-3 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 94,870 US$ 119,307 (without dependants) and from US$ 101,634 to US$ 128,268 (with dependants)
