Position: Electrical/ Mechanical Engineering Technician, Multiple Duty Stations

Within delegated authority, the Electrical/ Mechanical Engineer ing Technician will be responsible for the following duties: (These duties are generic, and may not be performed by all Electrical/ Mechanical Engineer ing Technicians.)
Oversee technical and administrative work and general engineering activities in the Mission, related to HVAC, refrigeration and electrical systems and maintenance activities.
Assist in technically evaluating bids and proposals for HVAC, refrigeration and electrical generation and distribution systems.
Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of either UN staff and/or contractorâs staff, including out sourcing type of contracts, and all related administrative work and supervision of personnel.
Plan and design specifications for Electrical/ Mechanical Engineer ing related projects.
Produce cost estimates for installation, commissioning, repair, testing, and maintenance of Electrical/ Mechanical engineering related projects.
Implement projects, or parts of larger projects, relating to the installation or repair of air conditioners, generators, refrigeration equipment, electrical power generation, distribution systems or related structures.
Involved in developing statements of works, technical requirements for materials, dimensions, quantities and costs to be incorporated into formal project specifications for contractual services.
Coordinate specific Electrical/ Mechanical Engineer ing work projects with other Engineering units and Sections.
Prepare, delegate and follow-up work orders for engineering works.
Coordinate with engineers and other civilian or military specialists in the mission on work requirements.
Monitor and report on progress of Electrical/ Mechanical Engineer ing projects.
Oversee and evaluate work performed by contractors.
Manage and control Electrical/ Mechanical Engineer ing assets.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Ensure that diagnostic servicing and repairing HVAC units, refrigeration equipment, generators, and electrical power systems is performed periodically.Work implies frequent interaction with the following:Chief/Supervisors of other Units, staff of the Section. Local and international contractors including the contractors technical personnel. Civilian and Military UN personnel throughout the Mission.

Planning & Organizing:

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical, vocational certificate or diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineer ing technology, or in a relevant engineering discipline. Recognised and valid License in one of the trades (electrician, power engineering technology, HVAC/R specialist, or similar) is an asset.
At least ten (10) years of relevant experience in electrical and/or mechanical engineering, facilities field. Previous experience in an international or UN peacekeeping or other field operation is highly desirable. Extensive knowledge of the UN rules, regulations and working practices pertaining to field missions is an advantage. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first level University degree.
Fluency in spoken and written English or French is required. Knowledge of a second UN language is an advantage and sometimes a requirement. Fluency in the local language may be required.
