Appointment against this post is on a local basis. External candidates will be considered only when no suitable internal candidate from the duty station is identified. If an external candidate is selected, his/her appointment will be subject to a passing grade on the relevant entry-level examination at the duty station. The candidate is responsible for any travel expenses incurred in order to take the examination at the duty station.

Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief of the German Translation Section/DD/DGACM, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:Performs final proofreading for all translations produced by the German Translation Section: reads all page proofs for completeness, grammar and formatting, alerting the responsible authority if obvious errors or discrepancies are found in the translated text.Assists the Chief of Section in the administrative and managerial tasks related to the mandate of the Section: keeps time and attendance, maintains files, acts as property custodian. Replaces the Language Reference Assistant during his/her absence: registers documents to be translated, processes texts against translation memories, prepares translation folders.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Must pass the United Nations Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT) in English and German at New York Headquarters.
Work Experience
Several years of experience, including in proof-reading, draft typing, copy editing, typographical layout or related field.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, candidates must have German as their primary language with proficiency in spelling and grammar. Fluency in oral and written English is required; knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Other Skills
Knowledge of MS Office, particularly MS Word, is required. Knowledge of Trados Translator’s Workbench, IMIS and eAssets is desirable.
