The Department for General Assembly and Conference Management internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department. The selected intern will be reporting to an internship supervisor, who will assign him/her tasks and monitor/evaluate his/her work and attendance. The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Responsibilities
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the
department or office to which they are assigned. The responsibilities will depend on the intern’s background; the requirements of the hosting office as well as the duration of the internship. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Provide assistance in drafting and preparing official documents;
Conduct research on a variety of topics;
Provide assistance in gathering and organizing/processing data;
Provide assistance in preparing presentations; evaluating projects and compiling data and statistics;
Provide assistance in preparing materials for inclusion in UN newsletters; periodicals, reports and books, based on official UN documentation and other sources;
Perform other relevant duties as required.

A-Office of the Under-Secretary-General (Training and Outreach Coordination Team)
Provide assistance in receiving and processing requests for training from staff members;
Provide assistance in responding to requests for information on training by staff members;
Provide assistance in gathering and processing data about training requests;
Help keep the training plan up to date;
Help provide information to selected candidates for subsequent sessions of the internship;
Help receive and organize information and documents from selected candidates for subsequent sessions of the internship.
B-General Assembly and ECOSOC Affairs Division
Provide assistance and support during conferences, meetings and sessions of intergovernmental bodies as well as those of the Department;
Attend conferences and meetings and help analyse and summarize their proceedings;
Provide assistance in preparing presentations; evaluating projects and compiling data and statistics;
Help monitor and analyze current events, public opinion and media in order to identify issues and trends;
Help provide the necessary protocol and liaison services to missions and delegations;
Provide information technology support and troubleshooting to other staff members and interns;
Analyse and summarize conferences and meetings;
Provide media analysis;
Assist with speechwriting.
C-Central Planning and Coordination Service (Documents and Meetings Services)
Provide assistance in planning document processing;
Help respond to requests related to document processing and other services
Help gather and analyze data on documents and document processes;
Provide assistance in planning and implementing new software tools;
Provide assistance in the formulation of conference management statistics.
Provide technical assistance in global IT projects.
Provide assistance in costing of conference services.
Provide assistance in preparing rooms charts and seating arrangements for different meetings in accordance with established protocol
Provide assistance in distribution of documents in conference rooms.
Provide assistance in attending queries from delegates and secretariats regarding meetings services
Assist in preparing conference material for all meetings.
Provide assistance in regular conference room set-ups for meetings.
Help provide administrative assistance to the unit’s front desk and support to the chief.
D-Information and Communication Technology Section
Provide assistance in planning and implementing new software tools;
Help provide information technology support and troubleshooting to other staff members and interns;
Help train staff members and other interns in the use of technology tools.
E- Protocol and Liaison Service
Help provide the necessary protocol and liaison services to missions and delegations;
Provide assistance and support during conferences, meetings and sessions of intergovernmental bodies as well as those of the Department;
Help monitor and analyze current events, public opinion and media in order to identify issues and trends.

Interns must have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Education
Applicants must be accepted into, enrolled in, or graduated from a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher); or have completed at least four years of fulltime studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.
Specialize in law, international relations, political science, Information technology, business or any other related field that is deemed relevant to the tasks at hand. Be computer literate in standard software applications. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the UN and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the Internships. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset.
