CHF is seeking a Director of Humanitarian Assistance to lead international disaster responses, support CHF’s work in protracted humanitarian crises, and develop innovative approaches to humanitarian assistance programs.  CHF focuses on Rebuilding and Recovery efforts in the areas of shelter, livelihoods, and disaster risk reduction in emergencies, working to generate lasting change and effective transition as early as possible during a crisis.
The Director of Humanitarian Assistance leads the on-going development and execution of CHF’s overall international assistance strategy, including developing programs in the areas of Rebuilding and Recovery; building organizational capacity; and developing sound policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:
The Director of Humanitarian Assistance leads and writes proposals in response to international humanitarian assistance emergencies.
The Director of Humanitarian Assistance plays a key role in fostering technical innovation, ensuring the quality and impact of humanitarian programs, and maintaining an efficient emergency response capacity.
The Director of Humanitarian Assistance is expected to have strong staff management skills and excellent leadership skills.
The Director of Humanitarian Assistance should have strong sector related (food security, shelter, livelihoods) contacts within OFDA.
The Director of Humanitarian Assistance will represent CHF with partners, donors and with humanitarian coordination efforts (Inter-Agency Standing Committee, Global Coordination Clusters, and Inter-Action).
Willingness to lead and write proposals in response to international humanitarian crises focusing on Rebuilding and Recovery

Requirements:
7+ years of experience managing international humanitarian assistance, emergency response and preparedness activities at increasingly senior levels
Strong staff management skills
Excellent leadership skills
Must have strong sector related (food, shelter, livelihoods) contacts within OFDA
Experience managing OFDA funded programs in food security, shelter and the livelihoods sectors
Proven track record of leading, designing and managing international disaster response and recovery activities
Experience in Africa, Asia, The Americas, The Middle East and the Caucuses preferred
Willingness to mobilize to difficult locations and situations on short notice
Ability to travel at least 30%
Fluency in English required; Proficiency in a second language preferred
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Master’s degree preferred – Degree in Humanitarian Assistance or Development Studies
Must have US work authorization
