Position: Food security early warning specialist

Chemonics seeks a food security early warning specialist for the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET), a USAID-funded activity that collaborates with international, regional, and national partners to provide timely and rigorous early warning and analysis of potential, emerging, and/or evolving food security issues. FEWS NET delivers timely and high-quality analyses to a varied customer base, including high-level decision-makers, to mitigate food insecurity and prevent famine.

The FSEW specialist will have three main areas of responsibility:
Act as prime liaison between field representatives and stateside decision-makers
Gather data and synthesize analyses for development of high-quality early warning information products, including periodic field visits
Develop guidance on and strengthen data collection, analysis, and information dissemination capacity among field staff, host-country, NGO, and donor partners

Qualifications:
*Minimum three to five years of professional experience related to food security programming, analysis, and/or early warning
*Minimum two to three years of field experience working on food security, livelihoods, nutrition, economic development, or related programming
*Strong technical background in food security, public health, nutrition, pastoral issues, agronomy, and/or market/household economics
*Experience with the Household Economy Approach (HEA)
GIS skills
*Experience working with USAID
*Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills
*Excellent interpersonal skills
*Fluency in written and spoken French, Spanish, or Arabic
*Graduate degree in a field related to food security (e.g., agronomy, agricultural economics, nutrition)
