RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Technology and Innovation Specialist will focus on increasing the availability and use of proven high-impact WASH and IAQ interventions, including services, products, practices, and information in country programs, as well as identify and shepard innovative WASH and IAQ approaches and products as needed. In particular, the Tech and Innovation Specialist will:
- Oversee the identification of innovative WASH and IAQ approaches and products
- Nurture and manage creative partnerships with sector partners, both public and private, to identify and test innovations for efficacy, effectiveness, feasibility, cost effectiveness and scalability.
- Develop, implement and monitor innovative interventions and models for cost effectiveness, sustainability and scalability
- Oversee the process of moving key WASH and IAQ interventions through the assessment/concept, testing, and scale-up phases
- Participate in project leadership and management as one of five core project team members
- Contribute technical inputs, advice, planning, and strategy related to technology and product development and commercialization
- Manage and oversee partnering with private sector producers and distributors as well as public sector entities who may program the technologies
- Represent the work and interests of the project to external parties, ensuring clear timely communication
- Link and coordinate with Country offices and other project staff in various countries.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in public heath, environmental health, or related field; PHD preferred.
- 5+ years in-country experience designing and managing WASH programs and innovations
- 5+ years experience moving key interventions from concept to pilot testing to large-scale rollout
- Demonstrated experience working in partnership with international donors and agencies
- Demonstrated experience with IAQ improvement programs at field level
- Professional experience working with or knowledge of USAID-supported cooperating agencies, donors, USAID missions, and international counterpart organizations
- Excellent organizational skills; ability to work on own initiative with an innovative approach
- Proven ability to coordinate a diverse team with multiple responsibilities
- Ability to work and get results under stressful conditions with sometimes limited capacity of national staff and government partners
- High energy; ability to lead as part of a dynamic team environment and willing to be accountable for aggressive results
The successful candidate will exhibit creative, innovative, and strategic thinking ability; excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural skills; strong attention to detail; ability to work efficiently and quickly under pressure; strong interest in private sector approaches to development; and proven ability to produce results and meet objectives under difficult circumstances.
